After breaking a window ( yep should have done it sooner ) I decided to get one of those canvas covers from cool custom canvas that others have mentioned. Pretty cool. Easy to install, simple instructions, took about an hour. great construction material. Just wish I had done it sooner. Melanie Leslie has completed our new traveling clothes for our Basecamp 20. Our experience has been very good with her service. Big John (our BC’s current name) seems to like it after our 3 1/2 hour journey home through the rain. The marine grade materials are top notch. I didn’t want the 3” of extra height, nor the added hitch weight of the rock guards and window guards as well as the extra cost that come with the X package. Cost was less than one of the X window guards. - Karl B.
We were looking for a solution to protect the front windows while driving and through the previous owner of our used 2018 Basecamp 16, we found Melanie Leslie’s business, Cool Custom Canvas. She makes covers in multiple colors for the windows that come out beautifully and we were able to install in about an hour. (Her website says she does Cushions too.) We had this cover made for our front windows. After reading about others who have had their front windows shattered due to rocks we felt like it was an important upgrade. The rock guards AS sells also crack and darkened the interior of the BC more than we liked. The materials and workmanship are excellent and we thought others maybe interested. She used boat cover/awning fabric, lining is a thick, soft fabric that goes against the windows. Snaps all the way around and has Velcro on the sides for a perfect fit. No wind kicking up, in or around the cover. It stays flat and tight against the windows. Our experience and the product we received was excellent. - Theresa B.
We ordered a snap-on rock guard window cover from Melanie Leslie. Had seen a fellow BaseCamp owner who had ordered and installed one of her covers. All hardware and instructions for us to install were shipped with the cover. Was a little intimidated drilling that first hole, but turns out it wasn’t hard. Her instructions were easy to follow. Installation took a couple hours. Next time around … would go faster. ☺️ If you are concerned about tackling it yourself, Melanie does offer to install the cover if you bring your BaseCamp to her, for an additional small fee. She is near Nashville. Her workmanship is excellent! She has been great to work with! - Barbara M.

A family of squirrels nested in my Pearson 30 mainsail over the winter and chewed massive holes in it. This was very upsetting of course, but thankfully I brought my sail to Melanie and she quickly and expertly repaired it. It's ready to go sailing again. We lived in the Nashville area for years enjoying our 1988 Catalina 27 sailboat on a local lake. Just like anything on a sailboat, canvas items and sails occasionally need to be repaired and replaced. All of our canvas items were showing age and needed to be repaired or replaced. It didn’t take us long to be informed by other sailors that Sailors Moving Sailors, a sailboat transporting company with an excellent reputation, also offers custom canvas and sail repair services. They have over time replace our numerous worn out canvas items including – bimini, cabin cover, binnacle cover, and sail cover. They also repaired and restitched my sails on several occasions. We decided up update our Catalina 22 with completely new cushions. We looked into buying them from Catalina, but found they were quite expensive and very limited on color choices. Looking further, we found Melanie with Sailors Moving Sailors and discovered she could offer a reasonable price for the same cushions and use any fabric we chose. She made a full set of interior cushions and cockpit cushions - new foam and all. We chose a multi-colored striped fabric for her to work with. The end result was exactly what we wanted - a unique and bright interior. All the stripes matched up where they should, and the cushions fit just right.
